We’re hitting midsummer, which means that fall and winter aren’t too far away! You might think there’s not much you can do in the garden right now, but if you want to have a festive Halloween, it’s the perfect time to start planting. Here are some things to consider when making your home the perfect autumn setting inside and out:
Fruits and Vegetables
Like us, you’re probably excited just thinking about all the yummy fall foods you’re going to enjoy in just a couple of months. Pull out your favorite baking or cooking books and consider planting broccoli, cauliflower, leeks, carrots, spinach, parsley, thyme, sage, rosemary, lavender, chives, kale, mint, beans, brussel sprouts, turnips, beets, radishes, basil, garlic, squash, and pumpkins.
A Sunflower Display
If you’d like to see sunflowers in your yard, along the edges of your home, in a planter’s box, or even for a fun fall display to take pictures, this is your last chance! Get those seeds planted before early August if you want a chance to enjoy them during autumn, primarily in October.
A Spooky Maze
Like the sunflowers, if you want corn in your yard, whether to eat, decorate, or create your own maze, now is the time before early August sets in! If you can’t get enough corn or don’t want to use that for decor or a maze, you can also use sorghum as an alternative, which is also ready to be planted now.
