The first offering of the season- Hellebores, or Lenten Roses, have arrived. Run, don’t walk, to the Garden Center to get yours before they’re gone.
We’ve got five varieties for you to choose from: Wedding Party, Merlin, Ivory Prince, Shooting Star and Pink Frost.
These early and long blooming beauties are one of the very few, true evergreen perennials, and serve as a great border around your flower beds or perimeter of your home.
Their arrival can also be a natural reminder or alarm clock for you to start the spring cleaning of your beds and landscape. It’s a great time to remove leaves, twigs and any debris left behind from Old Man Winter, and make way for your bulbs to burst through, if they haven’t already.
A Rose by any other name…isn’t a rose?
They’re also called a Lenten Rose, as they will generally show up around Lent, but these lovelies aren’t technically a rose.
Pro Tip: With the upcoming cold snap this weekend, you can pick some up now, but keep them cozy until next week, either under some light cover or inside until you plant.
They do require solid drainage and don’t like to be soggy, so take care when planting.
As an added bonus to your landscape, especially in this area, they are deer resistant!
